Following Silverstone's retirement, on May 15 the Italian team is ready to take revenge in their home round with Lacorte / Sernagiotto / Schirò at the wheel of the Ligier-Nissan LMP3. Villorba Corse will also enter a Ferrari 458 for French crew Mezard / Hiesse in the first race of the GT3 Le Mans Cup.
Scuderia Villorba Corse makes a new start of its European Le Mans Series campaign at Imola's home round. Italian team gets back in the international endurance series for the second round of the season from May 13 to 15. Revamping their “Road to Le Mans” project, Italian drivers Roberto Lacorte, Giorgio Sernagiotto and Niccolò Schirò will share the Ligier JS P3 Nissan in the LMP3 class again. The squad led by Raimondo Amadio heads to Imola with the main goal to score the first points of the season and to take revenge after their unlucky 2016 debut at Silverstone last month. While fighting for a podium position, they had to stop for a technical issue. No less than 42 sportscars, with 20 LMP3s, are expected to compete in Imola. The 4 Hours of Imola will start with the first 90-minute free practice session on Friday. Saturday is the day of the second practice and the qualifying session while the race is scheduled on Sunday at 14h00 local time (15h00 GMT), with live streaming coverage at www.europeanlemansseries.com.
Confirming its ever growing capability to diversify and to manage different activities, Villorba Corse will also take part in the first round of the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup (www.gt3lemanscup.com), the brand new international GT series created by ACO Le Mans, with French drivers Cedric Mezard and Steeve Hiesse pairing in a Ferrari 458 GT3. On Saturday the qualifying session is scheduled at 11h20 and the 2-hour race at 17h00.
Team Principal Amadio says; “A really full immersion weekend for us in Imola. In the ELMS we intend to arrive well determined and willing to strike back immediately. After last week's testing session we are aware that we will face a very demanding round where we have to confirm our pace and make sure to finish the race. On the other side, GT3 Le Mans Cup is a very interesting brand new series that will reach the level of the most competitive international GT championships. Our team is very familiar with the Ferrari 458, I believe that if we plan an effective strategy we will straight away be among the major contenders”.
